Think about who Peter was. On the night Jesus was arrested, Peter stood by a “fire of coals” and warmed himself (John 18:18, KJV), and he said three times that he didn’t know Jesus. Luke records what happened next: “And Peter went out, and wept bitterly” (Luke 22:62, KJV).<\/p>\n

After Jesus rose, He found Peter again. John says there was “a fire of coals there, and fish laid thereon, and bread” (John 21:9, KJV). Same kind of fire. Even the word “sincere” is gentle. The Greek word behind it is adolos<\/em>, which means without deceit, or pure, with nothing mixed in. Just one verse earlier, Peter tells readers to lay aside “all guile,” and the Greek word for guile there is dolos<\/em>. Put down the tricks; pick up the pure thing.<\/p>\n

The One Sign Worth Looking For<\/h2>\n
