You typed it into your phone with the lights off. Maybe in a parked car outside the house, maybe at two in the morning after everyone else went to bed. Prayer to accept Jesus.<\/em> Not because you wanted a theology lesson — because you wanted the words. The right ones. The ones that work.<\/p>\n\n

And underneath that search there is a quieter fear, the one you probably would not say out loud: what if I say it wrong, and it does not take?<\/p>\n\n

Here is what a friend should tell you first. That fear is aimed at the wrong person. You are worried about whether Jesus will accept you. His critics complained that He accepted people far too easily — and they wrote it down.<\/p>\n\n

The Phrase You Searched Is Not Actually in the Bible<\/h2>\n\n

This catches most people off guard, so let’s say it plainly: the phrase “accept Jesus as your personal Savior” does not appear in the Bible. Not in the King James, not in the others. It is a modern expression — a well-meant one, a useful shorthand — but it is not a line anyone in scripture ever spoke.<\/p>\n\n

That is worth less as trivia and more as relief. If the phrase itself is not in the Bible, then there is no official wording sitting somewhere that you have to reproduce correctly. You are not entering a password. Nobody is checking your spelling.<\/p>\n\n

And when scripture does describe this moment, it reaches for a different verb, pointed in a different direction:<\/p>\n\n

“But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name.” — John 1:12<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n

Received.<\/em> Not achieved. Not earned. Not performed well enough. You receive something that is already being held out toward you. The same quiet reversal shows up in the other phrase people search at midnight — the one about asking Jesus into your heart<\/a>, which turns out to come from a verse spoken to people who were already believers.<\/p>\n\n

His Critics Filed the Complaint For You<\/h2>\n\n

There is a sentence in Luke’s Gospel that answers your fear better than any prayer template could, and the reason it works is that it was never meant kindly.<\/p>\n\n

“Then drew near unto him all the publicans and sinners for to hear him. And the Pharisees and scribes murmured, saying, This man receiveth sinners, and eateth with them.” — Luke 15:1-2<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n

Read who is talking. That is not a disciple writing an advertisement. That is the religious establishment building a case against Jesus, and the charge they landed on was this: he lets the wrong people get close to him.<\/em><\/p>\n\n

In a courtroom, testimony against your own interest is the strongest kind there is. Nobody suspects a hostile witness of flattery. So when the people trying to discredit Jesus settle on “he receives sinners” as their accusation, they have accidentally handed you the most reliable description of him in the chapter.<\/p>\n\n

And notice the verb again. Not “sinners accept this man.” This man receiveth sinners.<\/em> The motion runs toward you.<\/p>\n\n

Jesus Answered That Complaint With Three Parties<\/h2>\n\n

Here is the part most people never connect, because the famous story gets read on its own. That murmur in verse 2 is not a stray detail. It is the setup for everything that follows. Luke 15 is one unbroken answer to that one complaint — and Jesus answers it with three stories in a row.<\/p>\n\n
