Devotional: Unshakable Authority – Resting in God’s Sovereignty
Scripture Reading: Matthew 28:18 – “And Jesus came and said to them, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.’”
Reflection:
In a world constantly changing and swirling with uncertainties, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by the circumstances around us. We live in times where confusion might reign, and chaos seems to lurk around every corner. But amid this turbulence, there lies a profound truth that we, as children of God, can cling to: our Lord possesses unshakable authority.
Jesus declared that all authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Him. What a powerful assertion! This is not just an ephemeral authority; it’s the kind of authority that brings peace to our souls and steadies us amidst life’s storms. His sovereignty means He is in control; there is nothing too big, too chaotic, or too complex for Him to handle. He orchestrates the universe with precision, and in His perfect wisdom, He knows the challenges you face.
When we begin to trust in God’s sovereignty, we unlock a deeper level of rest in our lives. It’s like finding a sanctuary in the midst of a raging storm. We can lay down our worries, our fears, and our longing for control, and allow ourselves to rest in the knowledge that God’s plans are greater than our understanding. There’s a peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7) that fills our spirit when we surrender our struggles to Him.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for Your unshakable authority over my life and the world around me. Help me to recognize the power of Your sovereignty in my circumstances. When I feel anxious or uncertain, remind me that You are in control. Help me to rest in the peace that comes from trusting in Your plans and timing. Thank You for Your faithfulness and the assurance that You are working all things together for good. May I walk with confidence in Your promises, knowing that Your authority is unshakeable.
